As the total number of COVID-19 cases continue to rise here in the Philippines, we come closer to a grim milestone of 25,000 confirmed cases.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 615 new cases—336 fresh and 279 late—on June 12 alone, upping the official tally to 24,787. There are currently 17,974 active cases, and of this total, 17,292 (96.2%) are exhibiting only mild symptoms.

There were 16 deaths recorded as well, bringing the total death toll up to 1,052. On the flip side, the agency also reported that total recoveries have jumped to 5,454, with a record-high 289 recoveries in the same day.

A few days ago, experts from the University of the Philippines revealed their projection of 40,000 total COVID-19 cases by June 30. We still have more than a few weeks to go before that, so only time will tell if that prediction will hold true. We sure hope not.
