Billionaire Andrew Tan said employees of his Alliance Global Inc will get COVID-19 vaccines for free, signaling the start of immunizations in the private sector.
Alliance Global is composed of real estate company Megaworld, liquor maker Emperador Distillers and Golden Arches Development, which operates McDonald's franchises.
Tan's effort runs parallel to the government's immunization program that rolled out last week, with frontliners as priority.
"In the next few weeks, we will start this program in phases per company, in accordance with the relevant protocols and procedures set by the National Government, LGUs, and health authorities," Tan said in a statement.
Called AGImmUNITY, the conglomerate's inoculation plan aims to ensure employee safety and protection from COVID-19. Employees were encouraged to partake in the program and observe safety protocols to prevent the spread of the virus.
The conglomerate did not specify which vaccine brand it would use.
