Philippine Army troops rescued residents trapped in their homes as Tropical Storm Auring (Dujuan) inundated the Caraga region on Sunday, authorities said.
At least 50,000 people were evacuated ahead of Auring's landfall on Monday and millions others on its path were warned of further flooding and possible landslides.
At 4 p.m. Sunday, Auring was spotted 355 kilometers east of Surigao City, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph with 80 kph gusts. It could make landfall in the Dinagat Islands-Eastern Samar area on Monday morning, PAGASA said.
