Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella Dies at 70
He has been in and out of the hospital since January.
Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has died after being in and out of the hospital for months due to several illnesses, officials said. He was 70.
Labella was first hospitalized for an ear infection that led to sepsis and mild pneumonia. He went on leave in June and October and was confined again in November due to pneumonia, family and colleagues said.
Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama told TeleRadyo that he was serving as acting mayor.
The mayor died around 3:15 a.m. at Perpetual Succor Hospital in Cebu City, GMA News quoted his brother Elmer Labella as saying.
