The Philippines on Sunday logged 1,926 new COVID-19 cases as authorities kept Metro Manila under Alert Level 2 until the end of November.

The day's tally brought active cases to 28,102. There were 3,140 new recoveries and 309 new deaths, the Department of Health said.

Overall, a total of 2,816,980 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 2,743,297 have recovered and 45,581 died.

The entire Philippines will shift to alert-based quarantine classifications which determine how much people can move around and by how much businesses and establishments can open.

Piloted in Metro Manila last September, the alert level restrictions provide for targeted lockdowns to allow the broader economy to operate.

Malacañang late Saturday released the alert-based quarantine classifications nationwide to be implemented until Nov. 30.
