DITO to Launch in Metro Manila on May 17
DITO Telecommunity said it would go online in Metro Manila on May 17, challenging the dominance of Globe and Smart in the capital region.
The Philippines' third telco, a joint venture between China Telecom and businessman Dennis Uy, had increased its Luzon footprint before operating in Manila. It is now also available in Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Bulacan, and Nueva Ecija.
"Manila, are you ready?" DITO said on Twitter on Wednesday. It also released a save the date video.
As of May 1, DITO is commercially available in these areas:
Since its launch, DITO speeds reached 85.9 megabits per second for 4G and 507.5 mbps for 5G, exceeding its commitment of 27 mbps in its first year of service, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) said.
DITO also committed to achieve 84% coverage with a minimum speed of 55 mbps in five years. It forged interconnection deals with Globe and Smart before it was launched in Metro Cebu and Davao.
