President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday quashed talks that his eldest daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio would run to succeed him in the 2022 polls.
Duterte made the announcement during a visit to victims of Tropical Storm Auring in Surigao del Sur.
"Inday Sara is not running. I have really, really put my foot down. Naaawa ako sa anak ko," he said during a situation briefing.
"Ang politika dito sa ano...kababuyan," he said.
Duterte-Carpio is the top pick to replace her father, according to separate polls from Pulse Asia and Octa Research. But the Davao City mayor has denied any interest in seeking the presidency in the 2022 elections.
Recently, banners with the slogan "Run Sara Run" have been posted in different parts of the Philippines and have gone viral on social media.
