Duterte Seeks Red Tape-Cutting Power to Hasten Pandemic Recovery
President Rodrigo Duterte has told senators that he needs to be empowered under law to "expedite" the processing of local and national permits, licenses and certifications. This will help aid the country's recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The President certified as urgent Senate Bill 1844, which will grant him such powers, according to a letter he wrote to Senate President Tito Sotto. Sen. Migz Zubiri shared a copy of the correspondence to the press.

Public services should be delivered promptly while the country is still under a state of national emergency because of COVID-19, he said.
Since the virus quarantines started last March, Duterte called on government agencies to make transactions faster and easier. He also called on telcos to improve their services.
