Factory Worker Who Got All-Coin Salary Will Get P55,000 Total

The Valenzuela City government on Wednesday suspended the employer of a factory worker who paid him his P1,056 salary all in centavo coins and directed the company to pay him P55,000 in total.

The P55,614.93 due to Russel Mendoza includes illegal dismissal or separation pay, underpayment, and non-payment of overtime pay and holiday pay by NEXGREEN Enterprise, the city's Worker's Affairs Office said.

Manoza said NEXGREEN also failed to pay employee benefits such as SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG.

On Wednesday, Mayor Rex Gatchalian and Mendoza met with NEXGREEN owner Jasper So, who said the all-coin payment was unintentional and that the coins were meant for "religious activities".

Gatchalian's office also presented a list of the company's alleged violations, which will for the basis for the suspension. He said NEXGREEN Enterprise will be given 15 days to rectify its wrongdoings, and failure to do so will result in the revocation of its business permit.

The mayor asked Manoza to name other former co-workers who were unfairly treated by the company. He earlier said he would help Manoza find a new job.

"'Di po sana tayo aabot sa ganito kung pinasahod n'yo sana kami ng maayos nung Sabado at kung maayos ang trato niyo sa mga empleyado n'yo," Manoza told his former employer.
