Grab Philippines on said Wednesday it would launch a new cash-in feature to allow passengers to load up or activate their GrabPay accounts with the assistance of its drivers to encourage riders to go cashless.

The “Cash-in with Driver” feature will enable commuters to open their virtual GrabPay wallets during a ride by cashing in with the drivers at the end of the the trip, Grab Philippines head of Transport and Shared Services Ronald Roda said in a virtual press briefing.

Commuters can pay with cash and receive their change as virtual credit on the Grab app. They can also reload with the driver if they're running low on stored credits.

This feature can fast-track cashless payments in the country by providing cash-paying passengers a means to activate their GrabPay wallets during their usual ride, Roda said. The cash-in feature will be fully rolled out come November through a Grab app update.
