Gyms, Personal Grooming Can Reopen From Sept. 1: Trade Chief
Gyms and personal grooming services will be allowed to resume operations from Tuesday, the same day new quarantine classifications are due, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said. Shuttered under strict quarantines, these establishments will finally be allowed to reopen at the onset of the long Christmas season.
Mayors will decide on the capacity of the gyms. They can reopen, as long as their areas are either under the two lowest tiers in the Philippines' four-step quarantine classification system -- GCQ and MGCQ, Lopez said. President Rodrigo Duterte will decide late Monday on the fate of the strict GCQ in Metro Manila, and for the rest of the country, either a GCQ or Modified GCQ.
"Iyong sektor gaya ng personal grooming, testing, tutorials, review centers, yung mga gyms iyon po ay itutuloy na sa pagbubukas starting tomorrow (Sectors such as personal grooming, testing, turorials, review centers and gyms can reopen starting tomorrow)," he said. The said businesses were supposed to open in many areas last Aug. 1, until medical frontliners called for a timeout that resulted in tight quarantines or MECQ for 15 days in Metro Manila and its suburbs.
