LOOK: How LRT-1 Construction Avoids Causing Traffic Jams
Construction on the LRT-1 Cavite extension is proceeding, and builders have employed a system that will minimize effect on traffic at ground level, Light Rail Manila Corp said.
The horizontal support, called pi-girders, will result in "faster execution and cause minimal effect on the ground-level traffic." A total of 203 pi-girders were installed, LRMC said.
Once finished, the LRT-1 Cavite extension will increase the line's daily capacity to 800,000 from 500,000.

The rest of the pi-girders will be installed using on-ground equipment like straddle carriers and cranes, with hopes of setting up a horizontal support every one to two days until January 2022.
The Light Rail Manila Corporation, which privately operates LRT-1, has teamed up with construction global player Bouygues Travaux Publics as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contractor.
