LRT-2 Resumes Operations After Fire

The LRT-2 resumed operations Thursday afternoon after a burnt uninterruptable power system, or UPS, caused a fire in the Santolan station earlier that morning.

In an advisory, LRT-2 management said the fire started at 5:10 a.m. and was contained by 5:50 a.m. No injuries were recorded.

"Nasunog yung UPS dito sa may Santolan station, yung function ng UPS dito siya yung nagpo-provide ng power in case na may power fluctuation or power interruption (The UPS at the Santolan station burned, its function is to provide power in case of a power fluctuation or power interruption)," LRTA spokeswoman Lyn Paragas told Dobol B sa News TV.

Light Rail Transit Authority Administrator Gen. Reynaldo I. Berroya called for a thorough investigation of the fire to prevenet similar incidents in the future.

In October 2019, a fire ravaged the LRT-2's Katipunan station and burned its rectifier, which resulted in shortened trips that excluded the Santolan and Katipuna stations.
