Mayor Isko Approves UST Plan for Limited Face-to-Face Classes

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Wednesday approved of the University of Santo Tomas' plan to resume limited face-to-face classes for its medical and allied health programs as the threat of COVID-19 remains.

Physical attendance for classes in all levels was suspended at the onset of the pandemic to prevent infections.

University officials met with Moreno to discuss how UST will adhere to health and safety protocols, manage occupancy capacity, and implement contingency plans should students, faculty, or staffers develop COVID-19 symptoms, among others.

A joint memorandum circular by the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Health requires higher educational institutions seeking the conduct of limited face-to-face classes to consult with their respective local government units.

"Consider it approved. We will just follow the memoranda of CHED," Moreno told UST officials.

However, UST students who refuse to attend physical classes should not be forced to do so.

"Huwag niyong pilitin ang ayaw," he said.

Manila City earlier included teachers in its priority list for vaccination once the local government has secured COVID-19 jabs.

"Teachers will be included in the first batch for the vaccine. Whether you're a Manilan or a non-Manilan, as long as you're working here in Manila, you will be included in the list for vaccine," Moreno said.
