Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said Monday he tested negative for COVID-19, hours since he announced that he was in quarantine after losing his close friend and driver to the virus.

Sotto said he was tested for COVID-19 on Sunday and was in isolation as part of the protocol.

"Negative ang result ng PCR test ko. Negative din yung nakasama namin sa sasakyan. Thank you for your messages and prayers. Let's all do our part to prevent the spread of this virus and its variants," he said in a tweet.

"Huwag kayo mag-alala okay ako, wala ako symptoms bukod sa chronic cough ko na matagal na naman wala pang pandemya, may chronic cough na ako," he said in a Facebook live on Monday morning.

As a precautionary measure, Sotto cancelled the flag ceremony at the Pasig City Hall and reimplemented alternative work arrangements.

"Hindi muna ako makakapasok sa trabao at kinancel ko muna ang mga appointment o meeting. Kung maari eh via Zoom o Viber na muna," he said.
