There will be no power disconnections in the greater Manila area until April 15, Meralco said Saturday, following the reimplementation of enhanced community quarantine for a week due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Meralco said it is suspending all disconnection activities in the meantime to provide customers enough time to settle their electricity bills.

"Cognizant of the plight of our customers amid these challenging times brought about by the pandemic and in support of the government’s effort to manage the transmission of Covid-19, we commit to put on hold all disconnection activities until April 15, 2021,” Meralco FVP and chief commercial officer Ferdinand Geluz said.

The announcement comes as Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal prepare for a weeklong ECQ from March 29 until April 4.

“Meralco crews will also continue to be on standby 24/7 to respond to any emergencies and reports,” Geluz said.

Customers are encouraged to send Meralco a message via Facebook or Twitter regarding electricity concerns or call its 16211 hotline before going to Meralco Business Centers since skeleton workforce will be implemented in said offices.
