Can a Straight Man, Woman Be Just Friends? Netflix's 'My Amanda' Thinks So
Netflix on Wednesday unveiled the official trailer for "My Amanda", a film that claims to challenge the dynamics of opposite sex friendships in a world long dominated by bestfriends-turned-lovers film tropes.
In her directorial debut, veteran actress Alessandra de Rossi plays the role of titular character Amanda, long-time female bestfriend of TJ, played by Piolo Pascual who co-produced the film.
"My Amanda" is de Rossi's gift to her good friend Pascual, who, as executive producer of independent film firm Spring Films, "turned her life " around with its production of "Kita Kita".
The 2017 film which starred de Rossi opposite comedian and actor Empoy Marquez holds the record of being the highest-grossing Philippine independent film.
"This movie is about friendship, and how much I treasure connections that are sincere, overwhelming, and that have a very profound impact, at least for me. There is no single or universal definition that could explain how much gratefulness a person experiences when another being gives you a chance to believe in yourself," de Rossi earlier said.
Premiering globally via Netflix on July 15, "My Amanda" in the trailer's caption posed the question: "when it comes to soulmates, is there ever really an "in between"?
