Justice Sought for Frontliner Nurse Killed in Manila Hit-and-Run

The family and colleagues of 23-year-old nurse Renz Perez are crying for justice after the COVID-19 frontliner was killed in a hit-and-run last Sunday in Ermita, Manila.

Perez was reportedly riding a bicycle when a pick-up truck struck him. A witness saw the victim at the corner of Maria Orosa Street, before he was rushed to the Philippine General Hospital. He was declared dead on arrival at 8:40 p.m.

According to reports, Perez was biking to work at Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital.

In a message addressed to Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, the victim's uncle Adonis Digon asked for help in finding the culprit. He told DZBB radio, "Wala naman kaming ibang hiling kundi yung hustisya dahil nandiyan na yan. Napakalaking damage na ang naidulot ng may gawa nito (There is nothing more we can do. Whoever did this caused us so much damage)." Digon described his nephew as a very good and helpful man.

The hospital where the victim worked, said he served faithfuly as a COVID-19 frontliner. "Hangad naming lahat na nawa'y makamit mo ang hustisya! (We are all hoping for justice)."
