10,748 COVID Cases Logged as Philippines Prepares to Vaccinate Minors

The Philippines, preparing to inoculate minors, on Monday logged 10,748 new COVID-19 cases.

Active cases now stand at 106,160. There were 16,523 new recoveries and 61 deaths reported.

Total cumulative cases since the pandemic began is now at 2,604,040, of which 2,459,052 have recovered and 38,828 died.

Alert Level 4 with eased restrictions is expected to last until Oct. 15. Gyms are now allowed to open and more services are made available to fully vaccinated individuals. Granular lockdowns will still be implemented in barangays or streets with a high number of COVID infections.

Vaccinations for those aged 12 to 17 is eyed to start on Oct. 15. Minors with comorbidities will be prioritezed, the DOH said.

Several cities in Metro Manila have opened vaccine pre-registration to kids as more of the younger population get infected with the respiratory disease.
