PAGASA Records 53°C Heat Index in Butuan City

Butuan City in Agusan Del Norte hit a heat index of 53 degrees Celsius on May 6, 2 p.m. as reported by Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The heat index is the actual temperature felt by the body.

Other areas in the country also registered high heat indices. Ambulong in Tanauan City and Sangley Point in Cavite City recorded 51 degrees Celsius. Clark in Pampanga, Maasin City, Science City of Munoz, and NAIA in Pasay City all recorded a heat index of 46 degrees Celsius.

The Science Garden in Quezon City recorded a heat index of 42 degrees Celsius.

Heat indices that range from 41 to 54 degrees Celsius are considered dangerous and can cause health risks such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and possible heat stroke with continued physical activity. 

The agency encouraged everyone to stay hydrated at home.
