An animal rights activist in a cow suit on Wednesday pleaded Binondo shoppers to go vegan for the Chinese New Year, as PETA again makes the case for animal rights.

In the streets of Manila's China Town, the costumed man, along with other members of the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), held up a sign that read, "Make It a Good Year for Cows: Go Vegan".

Vegan food is so good, even Nian, a demonic figure in Chinese folklore, will want to give up meat, PETA said. According to legend, Nian ate villagers' livestock until people started wearing red and making loud noises.
