14,000 COVID Cases Tallied for Third Day Straight

The Philippines tallied 14,000 new COVID infections for the third consecutive day on Monday, before officials decide on a possible lockdown extension in high-risk areas.

The Department of Health logged 14,610 new infections bringing the total active cases to 106,672 and the overall total since the start of the pandemic to 1,755,846. 

There were 10,674 recoveries reported, while another 27 people died of COVID-19. This brings total recoveries to 1,618,808 and deaths to 30,366.

Metro Manila was placed under ECQ to arrest the spread of the super-contagious Delta variant. It is expected to end on Aug. 20. According to Health Usec. Rosette Vergeire, it could take two weeks before the lockdown's effects are felt.

Local vaccination efforts persist, with the country racing to inoculate at least 50 million Filipinos before the year ends.
