Who Can Travel Abroad? Think Work, Not Play

More countries have reopened their borders to Filipinos, subject to flight availability and health checks, the Department of Foreign Affairs said. By the looks of the list, outbound travel will most likely be for work, not for a vacation to escape the COVID-19 quarantine.

Macau (a special Chinese region to be more precise), Croatia and Senegal were the latest to lift restrictions on Filipino travelers, joining countries like the US, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, the UAE and Mexico. Some countries only allow diplomats or those with work permits like Kuwai and Saudi Arabia.

Filipinos who want to leave the country must secure travel clearances from local authorities so it's best to coordinate with your travel agent or airline for the requirements, according to the DFA. Yes, you will also need to apply for a visa when applicable.

Metro Manila, where the country's main airport is located, is under General Community Quarantine or GCQ until July 31. President Rodrigo Duterte could tighten restrictions and restore the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine if infections fail to slow, officials said.
