PH Logs 20,019 New COVID Cases Gov't Looks to Vaccination for Minors

The Philippines on Sunday tallied 20,019 additional cases of COVID-19 as the government considers vaccinating minors as young as 12 years old by the fourth quarter of this year.

New COVID-19 infections brought the number of active cases to 157,438 . A total of 20,089 new recoveries and 173 deaths were also reported.

Overall, a total of 2,080,984 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 1,889,312 have recovered and 34,234 died.

The Food and Drug Administration has so far cleared jabs from Pfizer and Moderna for use on minors as young as 12 years old.

Once vaccination of minors pushes through, it will likely follow a priority system similar to adults putting children with co-morbidities in the front, said FDA director Eric Domingo said.
