Presumptive president Bongbong Marcos on Wednesday said his running mate Sara Duterte-Carpio, has agreed to helm the Department of Education once they assume office.

Marcos' team has begun preparations for a transition leading up to his June 30 inaugural after winning the May 9 elections by a landslide.

"I think I am already authorized to announce the first nominee that we will be giving to the Commission on Appointments when the time comes should I be proclaimed. And that is that our incoming vice president has agreed to take the brief of Department of Education," Marcos said in a press briefing.

Marcos said he asked Duterte-Carpio if she was willing to accept the post, to which she readily agreed.

"Palagay ko, kasama na diyan, dahil she is a mother and she wants to make sure that her children are well-trained and well-educated. That's the best motivation that we can hope for," he added.

The vice president, whose main function is to replace the president in case of death or incapacity to hold the office, may be appointed as a member of the Cabinet.

Liloan, Cebu Mayor Christina Frasco, Duterte-Carpio's spokesperson, earlier said the Davao City mayor hoped to head the Department of National Defense once her election becomes official.
