What's Next? Sara Duterte Drops Candidacy for Davao Mayor
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said Tuesday she withdrew her candidacy for reelection, reigniting calls for her to run for president.
Her youngest brother, Sebastian "Baste" Duterte will run for mayor in her place, Duterte-Carpio said.
"Ngayong hapon wini-withdraw ko ang aking kandidatora sa pagka-Mayor ng Davao City. Si VM Baste ang papalit sa akin," she said in a Facebook post. Melchor Quitain will replace Baste as candidate for vice mayor.
The president's daughter did not cite reasons why she dropped her reelection bid.
The standard-bearer of Duterte's PDP-Laban party, Sen. Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, earlier said that he was open to being substituted by Duterte-Carpio, who has until Nov. 15 to decide.
