Stop Red-Tagging, Governor Says in Defense of Liza, Angel

The governor of "insurgency-free" Cavite on Monday said a top Army general who called out actresses over their dealings with left-wing groups should be "ashamed of himself." Bringing government services to the countryside is far more potent than propaganda against rebel groups, the local leader said.

Lieutenant General Antonio Parlade's thinking is "preposterous and shifty," Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla said on his official Facebook page. Outspoken women who espouse a strong feminist culture "does not make them co-conspirators nor allies of the left wing," the governor said.

"If you want to threaten the lives of public personalities, may I suggest that you try knocking out someone on the same weight class?" Remulla said.

Parlade heads the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict or NTF-ELCAC. Remulla said task force members engaged in red-tagging during a recent webinar at the Cavite State University.

"I am not a believer in Communism nor do I sympathize with them. I think it is a failed ideology that has become irrelevant in today’s modern world," he said.

Should propaganda posters be put up in Cavite, Remulla said he would personally take them down.

"Brand me a communist if you will but it is my sworn duty to defend Cavite’s record in holding the insurgency at bay," he said.

"Slogans, red-tagging and threats will never prosper nor win.  Rather, it is good governance as well as the sincerity and will to serve that shall triumph and prevail," he said.
