Strong Earthquake Jolts Luzon as Monsoon Rains Pour
Two natural disasters at a time.
A strong earthquake jolted Luzon before dawn on Saturday, as it was hammered by monsoon rains. It was felt in Metro Manila and the thousands who felt it made #lumindol trending.
An initial PHIVOLCS report said the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.7 and struck off the coastal town of Calatagan, Batangas at 4:49 a.m. Another magnitude 5.1 earthquake followed at 4:57 a.m. in the same area.
Phivolcs said there was no tsunami threat to the country following the earthquakes.
There were also no immediate reports of casualties or damage. Aftershocks are expected, Phivolcs said.
