Five-star and 4-star hotels in Metro Manila can operate at full capacity for staycations, the Department of Tourism said Monday as the country's tourism slowly reopens from the COVID-19 quarantine.
"Pagdating naman doon sa staycation, papayagan siyempre iyong 100% dito sa NCR for the 4 to 5-star category," Tourism Undersecretary Benito Bengzon said during a virtual press briefing.
For areas outside Metro Manila, even 3-star hotels can accept guests for staycations, he said.
While top Metro Manila hotels are allowed to operate at full capacity for leisure, the decision will still depend on their respective managements, he said.
The tourism industry is among the worst-hit sectors because of COVID-19 as governments worldwide imposed lockdowns, curtailing wanderlust. It was only this month that the Philippines allowed its citizens to leave the country for leisure trips.
