Viber, GCash Team Up to Make Ordering Food Easier

Ordering food on Viber promises to be easier after the chat app partnered with GCash and Globe MyBusiness for a chatbot called FoodPH, the tech platform said Thursday.

Payment will be via QR Codes that are generated using the GCash app. The QR Code will be uploaded to FoodPH on Viber and payment will be a one-click transaction, Viber said.

Viber is among the Philippines most popular messaging apps with 25 million users while GCash exploded during last year's quarantines, now with 20 million users.

The GCash partnership positions Viber as an "app of needs," said David Tse, the platform's senior director. During the pandemic, Viber saw a "massive shift" towards online commerce, he said.

The new payment feature responds to consumer needs in a way that is "not intrusive, but inclusive."

"We have envisioned Viber to move beyond just calls and messages and make its way to towards becoming an all-in-one app that fits right into the lifestyle of our users with no compromise to our users' privacy and safety," Tse said. 

Micro, small and medium enterprises (under Globe MyBusiness that sell food can now be a part of Food PH. 

According to Viber, GCash and Globe, this is just the “tip of the iceberg” for their partnership as they have more in store for users.
