(UPDATE) A driver who went viral for running over a security guard with a SUV apologized on Wednesday for his actions, as he appeared in public for the first time since the incident in Mandaluyong City last weekend.

Jose Antonio Sanvicente also offered financial help to the security guard, Christian Floralde, as he apologized, his lawyer said.

"Wala naman akong masasabi... My apologies sa nangyari, my apologies kay Mr. (Christian) Floralde at kanyang pamilya," Sanvicente told reporters in Camp Crame police general headquarters.

Sanvicente's license was revoked after he failed to explain the incident before the LTO last June 5. He was also "perpetually disqualified" from securing a driver's license.

Acting PNP chief Vicente Danao on Monday challenged Sanvicente to surrender, saying "Baka adik ka. Bakit ayaw mo sumurrender?"

Asked by reporters if he was using drugs, he said "hindi ako gumagamit." Asked if he was willing to undergo drug test, he said he would follow his lawyer's advice.

Sanvicente's mother said they decided to go to Danao when they heard the PNP chief telling her son to surrender.

"Mabait ang anak ko, nagtatrabaho siya, he's a very responsible man. I think ito, aksidente naman talaga ito, lumaki lang nang lumaki. It's so sad kasi ano na mangyayri sa future ng anak ko 'diba? Maayos ang anak ko. Sino bang may gusto na takbuhan 'yun? Syempre na-rattle din siya e," she said.

Danao said the case is considered "solved" after the suspect voluntarily turned himself in and the police filed the case against Sanvicente. The SUV used was also surrended to the PNP.
