Democracy is under siege in the U.S. after supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump stormed the halls of Congress before lawmakers were scheduled to certify President-Elect Joe Biden's victory.

Trump sought to overturn the results of the November vote citing unfounded claims of fraud. Biden's victory would make Trump a rare one-term U.S. president. This video from Agence France-Presse captured the scenes at the U.S. Capitol.
