Some 31% of Filipino families whose members take online classes reported having weak internet connections, a Social Weather Stations survey showed, underscoring the need to to improve services during the pandemic when internet is life.
The remaining 68% said they have either strong or fair connections with most of them coming from Luzon island, SWS said, citing a poll of 1,500 adults from Nov. 21 to 25.
The poll showed some 9 in 10 families spend an average of P901 a month on internet services.
Some 56% of Filipino families use pre-paid connections while 41% use post-paid. The remaining 5% covers those who go to internet cafes or pisonet shops, notwithstanding the dangers posed by the pandemic, SWS said.
Two proposals for pilot face-to-face classes in non-COVID hotspots were rejected by President Duterte pending nationwide rollout of vaccines.
The entry of DITO Telecommunity this year is expected to ramp up competition among telecommunications providers.
