500,000 More Sinovac Vaccines Arrive in Philippines

The Philippines on Thursday received an additional 500,000 doses of China's Sinovac vaccine, as it moved to innoculate more people while infections surge, the country's immunization czar said.

Manila has now received 3.5 million doses of CoronaVac. It ordered a total of 25 million doses and the first batches to arrive were donations from Beijing. The Philippines plans to vaccinate up to 70 million of its roughly 100 million population this year despite short supply.

Vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez said the Sinovac jabs would be distributed across the country.

Some 15,000 doses of Russia's Sputnik V vaccine will arrive by early May, Galvez said Wednesday night. More vaccines from the COVAX alliance for vaccine equity and Novavax will arrive in the next two months.
