Convenience store chain 7-Eleven on Wednesday started #7Election, its own presidential polls that ask customers to pick the cup bearing the face of their preferred presidential candidate, taking the principle of "voting with your wallet" literally.
Earlier, beverage kiosk chain Fruitas launched a similar ploy with its campaign "Baso Para sa Boto". Quezon City's Kamuning Bakery also has its own "pandesal survey", which gives customers a chance to show support for their presidential bet through a set of sandwich meals, each named after a candidate.
As election surveys abound—either by independent polling bodies or done informally through social media reactions—these brands offer Filipinos a fun (though unscientific) way of participating in the election discourse, an attempt to drive up not just their own sales but also awareness in the lead-up to the May 9 vote.
