COVID-19 vaccines made by British pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca will arrive in the Philippines on Monday, March 1, Malacañang said Saturday.
The Philippines will receive 525,600 doses of AstraZeneca jabs courtesy of the COVAX facility, which ensures equitable global access to COVID-19 vaccines, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.
President Rodrigo Duterte will receive the jabs that sre set to arrive at around noon Monday, just a day after Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines arrive in the Philippines.
"This forms part of the 44 million doses of COVAX to inoculate 20% of our population," Roque said.
The arriving AstraZeneca jabs are different from the 17 million doses ordered by the national government through a tripartite deal with the country's business sector.
The vaccine, developed with the University of Oxford, is the second to secure emergency use authorization in the Philippines after Pfizer and BioNTech.
