Remember Jeneven Bandiala: Donations Sought for Family of Guard Slain in Ateneo Shooting

Ateneo Law's class of 2022 is calling for donations for the family of Jeneven Bandiala, the university security guard who was one of three casualties in a weekend shooting that led to the cancellation of their commencement exercises. 

The graduating batch remembered Bandiala as the "fallen hero" who risked his life trying to stop the gunman from entering the campus.

Noting they were in touch with his family, the group called for donations from those willing to help out. 

"Kuya Jeneven went above and beyond what was expected of him, and gave no less than his life in the duty of keeping our second home safe on what was supposed to be the happiest of days," batch member Shik Castillo said in her post.

"While nothing we can do will assuage the pain in the hearts of those he left behind, we will do all we can to extend to them the gratitude of the community he died to protect," she added.

Shortly after the incident, Filipinos online had paid tribute to the Bandiala, with many advocating for him to be recognized in reports as more than just an Ateneo security guard.

In another viral post, Jesuit priest Bien Cruz recalled what Bandiala's colleagues said in mourning shortly after the incident. 

"Ginawa niya ang dapat niyang gawin. Ginawa niya ang tama at baon niya yun kung saan man siya ngayon. Di yun mawawala sa kanya. Mas mabuti pa rin gumawa ng kabutihan kaysa kasamaan."
