The Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday advised the public to temporarily avoid paying for passport appointments using GCash citing "numerous" complaints.
The DFA cited advice from PayMaya, the payment gateway for all passport appointments, which said that some transactions declined by Paymaya were still approved by GCash. This caused some GCash accounts to be debited even if the booking failed.
"The DFA, through its Office of Consular Affairs, assures the public that it is closely coordinating with Paymaya as they resolve the issue with GCash," the department said.
Passport applicants can still pay using credit or debit cards, and via authorized partners.
