Distribution of cash aid or ayuda in the Greater Manila Area has been extended until May 15, the Department of the Interior and Local Government said.
The extension, according to DILG spokesperson Usec. Jonathan Malaya, was given following the request of mayors in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal -- areas that were placed under enhanced community quarantine for two weeks to control a surge in COVID-19 infections.
Malaya said the "one-time" extension would allow local government units to deal with complaints on aid distribution. President Rodrigo Duterte's administration had set aside nearly P23 billion for the initiative.
Under government guidelines, each person can receive P1,000 and not more than P4,000 per family. If there are more than four members in the family, the financial aid will still be capped at P4,000 according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
