Former Sen. Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino IV on Thursday said he would no longer run for senator in the 2022 elections as he accepted Vice President Leni Robredo's offer to be the manager of her presidential campaign.
Aquino was nominated by the Liberal Party as among their initial senatorial bets in the upcoming polls, but he said he opted to support Robredo by being her campaign manager.
Robredo formally announced her intention to seek the government's highest position on Thursday.
The cousin of the late president Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III previously served as senator from 2013 to 2019. He sought reelection in the 2019 elections under the Otso Diretso coalition but he failed to make the cut.
Aquino also served as Robredo's campaign manager for her vice presidential bid in the 2016 elections.
