Comelec said Thursday it received two new petitions seeking to block Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. from running for president.
One was filed by a rival who shared the same surname, Tiburcio Villamor Marcos, while the other, filed by a certain Danilo Lihaylihay, said the only son and namesake of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos should be declared a nuisance, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez told reporters.
All in all, Marcos Jr. is so far facing two petitions to cancel his COC, one petition for disqualification, and one petition to declare him a nuisance candidate.
The disqualification case against Marcos Jr. was filed on Wednesday by a group of martial law victims and survivors, who claimed that his tax evasion conviction in 1995 makes him perpetually ineligible to run for any public office.
The petitioners said Marcos Jr. made false material representations in his certificate of candidacy when he claimed that he was eligible to be elected as president and that he was never found liable of any offense.
An earlier petition to cancel Marcos Jr.'s candidacy, filed by civic groups representing political detainees, human rights and medical organizations, has been raffled to the Comelec's second division. Marcos Jr. earlier called this petition a "nuisance" complaint.
The Comelec second division has granted the motion of Marcos Jr. for extension in filing their response to the first petition for COC cancellation. A preliminary conference was set for Nov. 26 to tackle the case.
