(UPDATE) Former Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. took the early lead in the presidential race late Monday based on partial and unofficial election results from the Comelec Media Transparency Mirror Server.
The only son and namesake of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. got 24,070,851 votes, followed by Vice President Leni Robredo with 11,447,751, based on 73.9% of the nationwide election returns as of 10:32 p.m. Pulse Asia's April opinion poll had predicted a Marcos win while Google Trends put Robredo on top based on internet searches.
President Rodrigo Duterte's daughter Sara leads the vice presidential race with 23,881,718 votes followed by Sen. Kiko Pangilinan with 7,211,145 votes.
Reports of faulty VCMs or counting machines marred Monday's vote where 65 million are registered to choose the country's next set of officials from the president down to city councilor.
