South Korean boy band BTS is currently the world's top artist in terms of revenue from record sales and streaming revenue, followed by pop superstars Taylor Swift and Adele, an industry report said, underscoring K-pop's domination across the world.
As the global recorded music market grew by 18.5% in 2021, thanks to growth in paid subscription streaming, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry said in its Global Music Report that BTS bested all of the world's recording artists in terms of “consumption across all formats", which include sales via streaming, digital and physical album, and singles.
The free version of the report does not provide the figure while noting that numbers have been weighted based on the value of each method of consumption.
Second to BTS is Taylor Swift, who last year released two re-recorded versions (appended "Taylor's Version") of her past albums "Fearless" and "Red". She is then followed by Adele, whose album "30" also topped IFPI's all-format albums, album sales, and vinyl albums, charts.
Next to these three are Drake, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Justin Bieber, Seventeen, and Olivia Rodrigo ranked respectively.
