Cavite Governor Remulla Shuts Own Golf Club for Misdeclared Tournament

Sherwood Hills is 'not exempted' from the rules.

Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla said Wednesday he shut a golf club, one where his family has "substantial" holdings, for holding an unauthorized tournament that violated quarantine rules.

The event at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Trece Martires City was declared as a "Member's Day" and organizers that only token gifts were given out in lieu of trophies and awards. What took place was a "shotgun" play, wherein participants tee off at the same time from different places, Remulla said on Facebook.

"The claim of the club that no tournament was conducted was clearly disingenuous and dishonest because of the organizational efforts made to conduct the same," Remulla said.  "
"The intent of the organizers from the beginning was to conduct a tournament but was disguised at the last minute in order to evade sanctions."

The Remulla family that has help political power in Cavite for years are members of Sherwood Hills, the governor said. Management "did not ask for 'special considerations' despite our relationship and proximity," he said.

"We are not exempt, nor anyone affiliated with us, from the rule of law," he said.
