Century Pacific Food Inc, best known in the Philippines for its tuna brand, said it was heading to the U.S. with its plant-based burger patties, seeking a bite out of a $20 billion (P970 billion) market.
The UnMEAT plant-based burger is available in the country through Shakey's, which like Century Pacific is co-owned by the Po family. For it's U.S. debut this year, the company tapped Filipina chef Nicole Ponseca of New York's Jeepney restaurant.
Burgers with plant-based patties shouldn't cost up to 40% more than regular burgers, Century Pacific said in a statement. It's made with non-GMO plant-based ingredients, with zero cholesterol and trans-fat, while offering a healthy source of protein and fiber.

The patties also contain soy protein, vegetable oil, onion, wheat, salt, vinegar, and soy sauce, the company said.
“Our legacy is rooted in providing quality proteins across a number of food categories, from dairy to plant-based,” said Century Pacific COO Gregory Banzon.
“This is only the beginning of our commitment to delivering delicious and affordable plant-based options," he said.
