The Commission on Election has denied a petition seeking to declare the son of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., who is seeking the presidency, a nuisance candidate in the 2022 elections.
The petition filed against Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. by Danilo Lihaylihay, lacks evidence to prove that the late dictator's son attempt to reclaim Malacañang makes a mockery of the election process, the Comelec second division said in a resolution dated Dec. 16, 2021.
"On the contrary, respondent actually has sufficiently established that he actually has a bona fide intention to run for President of the country," the resolution, signed by Comelec presiding Commissioner Socorro Inting, said.

The Comelec also noted that Marcos Jr. does not fall in any of the categories of nuisance candidates namely: one who has a filed a candidacy to throw the election process in mockery of disrepute, or to cause confusion among voters by the similarity of names, or that there are acts or circumstances which clearly demonstrate the lack of a bona fide intention to run for office.
Marcos Jr. is facing at least six other formal petitions to block his presidential bid for the 2022 elections.
The son of the late dictator is seeking the presidency under the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas. He is running along with President Rodrigo Duterte's daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, who is seeking the vice presidency.
