The Philippines on Monday tallied 543 new COVID-19 cases as more of its Southeast Asian nation neighbors reported cases of the new Omicron variant.
The day's tally brought active cases to 13,548. There were 830 new recoveries and 113 deaths, the Department of Health said.
Overall, a total of 2,835,154 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 2,772,107 have recovered and 49,499 died.
Thailand had detected its first case of the Omicron coronavirus variant in a U.S. citizen who had traveled to the country from Spain late last month. Malaysia also earlier the variant in a foreign student who was quarantined after arrival from South Africa two weeks ago.
