The Philippines logged 870 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, the last day before the Department of Health stops reporting daily case tallies.
The day's total brought active cases to 48,793, with a total of 1,433 new recoveries and 144 new deaths reported.
Overall, a total of 3,667,542 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 3,561,726 have recovered and 57,023 died.
The DOH last Thursday said it would stop releasing daily COVID-19 cases starting March 7 in favor of a weekly tally as the country adjusts to the "new normal."
Instead of reporting the daily number of cases, the DOH will focus on severe and critical cases, along with the intensive care unit occupancy and vaccination coverage, Health USec. Maria Rosario Vergeire said.
Metro Manila and 38 areas are under Alert Level 1 until March 15, the first time it was declared since the pandemic struck Manila in March 2020. Under Alert Level 1 or "new normal", all establishments and all modes of transportation are allowed to operate at full capacity.
