At least four individuals were reportedly killed after a Magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit Abra and shook parts of Luzon island on Wednesday, the Department on the Interior and Local Government said.
Of the four reported deaths, two are from Benguet, one from Abra, and one from Mountain Province, Interior Sec. Benhur Abalos said in a briefing before President Bongbong Marcos.
A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Tayum, Abra at 8:43 a.m. on Wednesday, with the tremor also felt in parts of Metro Manila and even as far as Quezon province.
Photos coming from provinces in northern Luzon showed the extent of the damage of the earthquake as houses fell and structures crumbled.
The Phivolcs warned that aftershocks may occur following the initial earthquake.
