The Department of Education said it adjusted the tentative schedule for School Year 2020-21, after two weeks of strict quarantine in Metro Manila and its suburbs forced it to move the opening of classes to Oct. 5.
The school calendar will end on June 16, 2021, with Christmas vacation starting on Dec. 20, 2020 until Jan. 3, 2021. The extended schedule will also include the summer months, said Usec. Diosdado San Antonio, who is in charge of curriculum and instruction. The law requires a total of 200 school days.
Once limited face-to-face classes are allowed in low risk areas hopefully June next year, DepEd will continue to utilize blended learning while reducing the number of students physically present in classrooms.
"We're looking into a staggered schedule or lesser number of students who will come to school at least once a week," San Antonio said. "Even if they were to attend schooling during summer months, it will be more comfortable since classrooms will be spacious since there are fewer students."
